Pets on Parade
Manurewa Christmas Parade 2002
Floats and goats mixed happily in the Manurewa
Christmas Parade on Saturday.
The pets on parade were a real highlight with an
array of dogs collecting for the SPCA including
two Newfies (X Reindeer?!).
Goats, Mervyn and Nicholas walked for the SPCA as
(human) kids waved excitedly from both the crowd
and their floats. Especially excited were the kids
on Manurewa Play Centre's "Imagination
Cloud" float which won first prize in the
school section of the parade.
Santa's sleigh was literally drawn by a team of
beautiful Siberian Huskies complete with blue
tinsel reins.
What a wonderful multicultural, colourful,
celebration and a happy start to the Christmas
season it was for pets and people alike!

"Mervyn" (left) a Nabian goat and
"Nicholas" (right) an Alpine X with Ken
Hume of Pokeno. Ken and his wife Pat have been
long term supporters of the SPCA and have also
participated in the Manurewa Christmas parade with
their pets for many years.
New Foundlands
"Bella" in black (left) and
"Savois" in chocolate (right). Peter and
Angela of Weymouth brought these two beauties
dressed as reindeers complete with antlers to
support the SPCA in the parade. It looks like the
personalised plate is more for the dogs benefit
than the owners?!
